Meet Benji
When Chicago Animal Care and Control reached out to C.A.R.E. about Benji, a small dog surrendered by his owners for euthanasia due to severe illness, we didn't hesitate—we saw a life worth fighting for.
That same day, we rushed Benji to emergency surgery for lifethreatening pancreatitis, beginning nearly a week of intensive hospitalization and months of expensive and careful recovery that required
dedicated staff monitoring;
compassionate volunteers providing comfort; and
foster families offering the stable, loving environment he desperately needed to heal both physically and emotianlly.
For C.A.R.E., the question was never about cost—it was about our commitment to every animal who comes through our doors, and that commitment saved Benji's life. Today, this once-frightened, critically ill dog is thriving in his forever home as a playful, affectionate companion.

When we met Rocky at Chicago Animal Care and Control, he was a terrified cat cowering in the corner of his cage — a victim of severe trauma with time running out on him.
Rocky came to us with deep wounds requiring surgical drains, staples, and stiches. While his fear and injuries made him seem unadoptable, C.A.R.E. saw what he truly needed: hope. Through:
